All North Central Soccer Referee Unit referees must attend a recertification course in order to be certified for refereeing in 2020. If you have not yet attended a course or signed up for one, please do so in the very near future at https://learning.ussoccer.com/. Please read all of the following information carefully.
If you are 12 years old at this time and desire to recertify at a course that is prior to your thirteenth birthday, the USSF Learning Center will not let you register. It has an age limit of thirteen. You will need to contact Sue Walter and request that your account be activated. After she has completed the activation, you will be able to register.
Please note that background screening for recertifying referees 18 years of age and older, MUST be applied for and cleared before US Soccer will allow registering for any course. The link for the background check is in your Referee profile. The background screening takes between 2-14 days for a response. As all course work including the online portion MUST be completed at least 48 hours prior to the classroom attendance, Referees should plan accordingly when they choose a course. I recommend signing up for a course at least 3 weeks in advance to give yourselves enough time to complete the background screening if required, register and complete all assignments.
Please note that if your address is one of those that has changed in the last year due to the Marathon County readdressing project, you may need to use your old address when completing the background check request.
Course Assignments can be found under the “Assignments” tab within the registered course. Assignments can only be accessed within a course once registered for a course. Those 18 and older have 4 assignments to complete and those under 18 have 3 assignments to complete. ALL assignments MUST be completed 48 hours prior the course or the referee will not be allowed to attend. Those under the age of 18 will not be required to do the “SafeSport Training”. It will show “Satisfactory” and have a green dot by it.
If you are not on the class roster, Instructors will not be allowed to let you attend the course.
NO WALK-INS ALLOWED. NO EXCEPTIONS
Only those completing ALL assignments 48 hours before the course will be listed on the course roster.

Are you looking to earn some extra money? Do you love soccer and want to get paid to watch it? Become a soccer official!
The local Wausau area new soccer official class has been announced. The course is a one-day class on Saturday, March 14th from 8:30 – 4:30 PM. It is being held at the Greenheck Field House (6400 Alderson Street, Schofield, WI 54476). The minimum age to become a new soccer referee is 13 years old (this is new as it used to be 12 years old. You must be 13 years old before being allowed to register for the course). The estimated total cost of the course and uniform is around $100-125. There is online coursework that must be done before the class that takes about 5-10 hours. There is a limit of 30-40 people for this class so register as soon as possible in order to secure a spot. There are not many opportunities out there for youths to make at minimum of $14 per hour. Last season, the Central Wisconsin Soccer League paid referees (Center and Assistant Referees) between $14 - $58 per game depending on age group and referee experience. The minimum payment for a U9/U10 game (which is the level a new referee would start at) is $20 for a center referee and $14 for assistant referees. That is at least $14 for refereeing a U9/U10 game of 50 minutes in length!
